How chroma key image background removal works

This tool removes solid or near-solid color backgrounds directly in your browser. Upload an image, choose the chroma color, and compare light, balanced, and strong cuts.

The algorithm measures how close each pixel is to the selected background color. Matching pixels become transparent, edge pixels receive a softer alpha transition, and distant pixels stay opaque.

Threshold, softness, and despill control

Threshold controls how aggressively the selected color is removed. Increase it when background leftovers remain; reduce it when details such as hair, fabric, or thin edges are being cut away.

Softness controls the transition around the edge. Despill helps reduce green, magenta, or white color spill on semi-transparent borders.
