Quick guide and practical context

Prepare the framing before you publish

The Instagram image optimizer adjusts a photo for Feed, Carousel, Story, or Reel cover. Choose a destination and drag or zoom the crop frame to check what will remain in the exported image.

The vertical 3:4 Feed preset uses 1080 × 1440 pixels as a reference. Instagram also accepts other photo shapes, such as 4:5, square, and landscape within its published limits. Stories and Reel covers use 9:16 as a visual reference; Instagram may still make its own adjustments when you publish.

What changes in the prepared file

Images larger than the selected destination are reduced without automatic upscaling. If the selected shape differs from the original, the exported file is cropped. JPEG is the default for photos, while PNG stays PNG to avoid removing transparency or degrading graphics without an explicit choice.

When the image already fits the selected shape and dimensions, Automatic keeps the original bytes. This avoids needless re-encoding. Cropping, resizing, or changing format creates a new file and may remove metadata such as location; browser decoding and encoding can also change color profiles or HDR appearance.

  • Vertical 3:4 Feed, 4:5 portrait, square, or landscape.
  • Stories and Reel covers in 9:16; profile in 1:1.
  • Optional position and zoom adjustment for each photo.
  • Before-and-after comparison, individual downloads, and batch ZIP.
  • Optional local record of publishing conditions and your preference after comparing in Instagram.

Privacy and limits

Images are not sent to a server: reading, cropping, and export happen in your browser. The original remains available for comparison and can be downloaded unchanged. EXIF orientation and HEIC support depend on the browser and device codecs; if a photo cannot be opened, save a JPEG copy and try again.

The exported file is a technical preparation, not a simulation of Instagram compression. Instagram may recompress images after publication, so a prepared version is not guaranteed to look better on every device. Compare alternatives by publishing them under the same conditions and checking the result in Instagram.

After comparing, you can save a local note with the device, Instagram version, post type, and conditions used. This history stays in this device’s browser and does not contain images.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Selection, cropping, resizing, and export happen in your browser. The tool does not upload photos to a server.

Does Instagram accept 3:4 photos?

Yes. Instagram announced support for 3:4 photos in Feed posts and carousels. The app may still process images when you publish.

Does this guarantee Instagram will not compress my photo?

No. Instagram may recompress images during publishing. This tool prepares a file but cannot predict the platform’s final result.

Can I keep the image unchanged?

Yes. Choose Keep original to use the same bytes. Automatic mode also keeps a photo without re-encoding when it already fits the destination.

Which image formats can I use?

JPEG, PNG, and WebP are the most compatible. HEIC/HEIF may open in some browsers; if your device has no compatible codec, save the photo as JPEG first.
